Wellness Mesothelioma Causes and Risk Factors

Mesothelioma Causes and Risk Factors

Doctors first found tumors on the lining of a patient’s lung in 1890. After that researchers have been busy in finding so many theories about mesothelioma causes. In 1960 a scientist named J.C. Wagner clearly attributed mesothelioma cancer to asbestos exposure.

Asbestos Exposure is Main Reason Behind Mesothelioma Causes

Exposure to asbestos is the main reason of mesothelioma cancer. In most cases asbestos exposures has occurred at industrial job places. Until the 1980s, asbestos heavily contaminated work places like refineries and power plants. Many workers sustained long-term, high-dose exposure over the course of their careers. This type of exposure is the most likely to lead to disease.

Rarely outside of their workplace patients have also been exposed. These exposures may have come from products like asbestos that came home on the clothing or skin of an asbestos worker or loose fill insulation.

In other cases, radiation exposure and exposure to Zeolite — another type of hairy mineral similar to asbestos, has been identified as mesothelioma causes.

Mesothelioma Causes in Gender

Mesothelioma is more commonly diagnosed in men than women and rarely affects people younger than 45. This is because mesothelioma often takes decades to develop, and men are more likely to work in jobs where asbestos exposure occurs. Although research shows men are much more likely to develop mesothelioma than women, gender alone cannot cause cancer. The same may be true for other risk factors. Also, read Mesothelioma Commercial

Symptoms of Mesothelioma can include:

The best way to prevent mesothelioma causes is to take a proactive stance on your health. If you think a past job or home repair project exposed you to asbestos, you should seek regular medical exams to check for signs of related diseases.

If you or your loved one has a history of asbestos exposure, don’t wait for symptoms to grow. Instead, be proactive and consult your doctor.

Early detection offers the best opportunity for effective treatment in mesothelioma.
